What is a Certificate of Interest?

A Certificate of Interest shows how much interest you've paid on your mortgage during a tax year.

You might hear it called:

  • a mortgage interest statement
  • an annual interest statement
  • an interest certificate
  • a mortgage statement for a tax return.

Why might I need one?

You may need a Certificate of Interest if you're:

  • completing a self-assessment tax return
  • preparing information for your accountant
  • providing evidence of mortgage interest paid for tax purposes
  • looking for a record of the mortgage interest you've paid during a tax year.

If you're looking for a mortgage statement or annual interest statement for tax purposes, you'll usually need a Certificate of Interest.

  1. Log in to Online Banking or the mobile app.
  2. Select your mortgage account.
  3. Choose Your statements & certificates.
  4. Select Certificate of Interest.
  5. Download or save your certificate.
