What is an Arranged Overdraft Alert?

Arranged Overdraft Alerts can help you stay in control and inform you of when you are about to start using your arranged overdraft (due to a scheduled payment, like a Direct Debit) or if you’ve started using your arranged overdraft (for example, if you have made a cash withdrawal). They will keep you informed as to whether you have incurred interest charges.

Arranged Overdraft Alerts are sent from 7am on business days (Monday – Friday excluding Bank Holidays).

You will be auto-enrolled for Arranged Overdraft Alerts when you provide a valid mobile number when opening a current account; when you update your contact details, when another party is added to your account or when a new overdraft limit is added to your account. If no mobile number is provided/ held enrolment cannot occur. You can select how you wish to receive your alerts or switch them off by using Online Banking, via "Chat to Cora" in the mobile app, by calling us or at your local branch. You will receive these alerts if:

  • Your account will go into arranged overdraft as a result of a forward posted payment (e.g. direct debit, standing order, cheque, bank fees/charges/debit interest)
  • Your account is in arranged overdraft for the first time as a result of the application of payment that is not forward posted (e.g. point of sales)
  • Your account was in arranged overdraft the day before and has now recovered. Your account did not trigger an arranged overdraft alert yesterday and your account is not in an arranged position today (e.g. corrected arranged position post cut off yesterday)

If you receive an Arranged Overdraft Alert, there are some easy ways for you to pay money in to your account which is immediately available to use (once you've checked your balance).

  • Transfer money from another NatWest account, for example via Online Banking or telephone banking
  • Pay in cash over the counter at any NatWest branch
