How to manage your money

If your Fixed Term Savings account has just matured and you want to move your money, we're here to help. Here are the 3 key steps you'll need to follow:

1. Set up Online Banking

Not got Online Banking set up? It's the first step to being able to move your money. To get started, you'll need your sort code and account number.

2. Set up a payment security method

Once you're set up with Online Banking, you'll need to order an Online Banking card, card reader and PIN so you can set up secure payments. They can take up to 15 days to arrive, something to keep in mind if you need your money by a certain date.

3. Set up your payment

There are a few different ways to set up your payment, depending on how much money you need to move - we've got all the information you need to help you choose the right one.

Step 1: Set up Online Banking

I haven't got Online Banking yet

What information do I need to set up Online Banking?

You'll need the sort code and account number of your Fixed Term Savings Account. You'll find them on the letter we sent to you when you first opened the account.

How do I sign up for Online Banking?

Go to 'Set up Online Banking' and enter your personal and account details. You can leave the debit card section blank and tap 'Next'.
We’ll then show you your unique customer number. It's used for logging into Online Banking, registering for the mobile app and when you call us.
For security, we'll send you a one time activation code to your mobile phone to verify your details. If your mobile number is wrong, missing or you don't get a code, you can ask for one to be sent in the post.
Enter and verify the activation code, then choose your memorable PIN and password. Once that's done, you can log into Online Banking.

How long does it take to get set up?

It usually takes 7-10 days to get Online Banking set up with your card, card reader and PIN, but it can take up to 15 days - so it's a good idea to start the set up process as soon as possible.

I've already got Online Banking

I've forgotten my log in details

Go to the Online Banking homepage and follow the 'Forgotten your Log In' instructions. You’ll need your unique customer number, which we sent to you when you set up your Online Banking details.

If you don’t know your customer number, select 'forgotten your customer number?' You’ll need your Fixed Term Savings Account number and sort code handy, you'll find them on the account opening letter or certificate of deposit we sent when you opened the account.

I want to set up mobile banking

What do I need to set up Mobile Banking?

You'll need the PIN and passcode you chose when you set up Online Banking.

How do I sign up for Mobile Banking?

First, you need to download the NatWest app. Just search for NatWest Mobile Banking in the Apple App Store or Google Play.
Open the app and tap 'I already have an account'. Then read and accept the Mobile Banking terms when you're ready.
Enter the characters from your Online Banking PIN and Password
Then we'll confirm your mobile phone number. This will either happen automatically or we'll send you an activation code.
Finally, set up a passcode and choose how you'd like to login - facial recognition, fingerprint or password.

It's important to know that you need to have set your mobile device up on your account 2 weeks before you try and make a payment, for security reasons.

Our app is available to personal and business banking customers aged 11+ using compatible iOS and Android devices. You'll need a UK or international mobile number in specific countries.

How do I order a card, card reader and PIN?

Log in to Online Banking
Select 'Security' from the menu in the 'Using a card reader' section.
Select 'Order a card reader'

We'll send your card reader, card and PIN in the post.

How do I set up and use my card reader?

Log in to Online Banking
Click on the 'Security' link from the menu
In the 'Using a card-reader' section, select 'Enable a card-reader'
Follow the instructions on the screen

I've lost my card reader, Online Banking card or PIN. What do I do?

Don’t worry, we can help you order new ones. Just log in to your Online Banking account, go to Security (top right) and follow the “reorder Card Reader” instructions. If you’ve lost your card or PIN, our digital assistant Cora can re-order those for you.

I want to set up biometric security

How to get set up with biometrics

To register your face you just need your mobile device with the mobile app and a forward-facing camera.

Open the app and select the icon in the top left corner to access 'My Profile'
Tap 'Settings' and select 'Biometric approval' from the menu
Tap 'Register now'
Next, follow the on screen instructions to register your face biometrics

If you don’t have notifications on, we’ll ask you to turn them on. This will help when you need to approve something.

When we ask you to approve something, you just look at the camera and blink to confirm it's you.

Step 3: Set up your payment

I want to move less than £20,000

Online Banking - for transfers less than £20,000

What you need:

The card reader and card that you ordered when you set up Online Banking, or your mobile app if you have registered for biometric approval
The details of the account you want to move the money to: the first and last name of the person you want to pay, as well as the account type, account number and sort code.

How to set up your your payment:

Login to Online Banking and select 'payments and transfers' from the main menu
Choose your account and click 'pay someone new'
Type in the first and last name of the person you want to pay, as well as their sort code and account number and select the account type (personal or business)
Click next, and we'll check the name and account details match
Click next and enter how much you want to send, then select 'pay now', or you can schedule your payment for a specific date if you'd like
Click next again to review all the details and get your card reader and card ready (or your mobile app if you're registered for biometric approval). Follow the instructions on the screen and your payment will be complete.

Mobile Banking - for transfers less than £20,000

What you need:

The latest version of the NatWest app
The details of the account you want to move the money to: the first and last name of the person you want to pay, as well as the account type, account number and sort code

How to set up your your payment:

Open the NatWest app and select the 'payments' icon at the bottom of the screen
Choose the account you want to make the payment from
Hit 'send money', 'make a payment', then 'pay someone new'
Enter the first and last name of the person you want to pay, as well as their sort code and account number and select the account type (personal or business)
Click 'verify payee', and we'll check the name and account details match
Choose how much you want to send and whether you want to send it now, or a date in the future
If you're signed up for biometric approval, the app will ask you to authorise the payment.
Check the details are correct and tap 'make payment'

I want to make a payment above my personalised limit

If you need to make a payment above your current limit then you must complete a change of limit. You'll need to authorise this with a card reader or your mobile app if you have registered for biometric approval.

What you’ll need:

To be registered for mobile or Online Banking
To be registered for biometric approval if using the NatWest app

Your step-by-step guide:

If you require to change your 'Payment limits' using Online Banking, log in to Online Banking, select 'Payments and transfers’, ‘Make a payment or transfer’ then 'Manage my personal payment limits'.
To change your 'Payment limits' using the NatWest app, tap on the ‘Payments’ icon at the bottom of the screen, select ‘Payments settings’ and then ‘Payment limits’.
Select the limit you wish to amend.
Select the amount you wish your limit to be set to.
Select ‘Next’ to navigate to the next page.
If correct, you will need to use biometric approval to complete the limit change within our app. Please follow the on-screen instructions.
You will see the limit change confirmation screen. You can now continue with making any payments.

I want to move between £20,000 and £100,000

Mobile banking - One off higher value payment

If you're registered for biometric approval and fully verified, you can make a one-off payment up to £100,000.

You just need to enter the payment details in the mobile app as normal and then follow the instructions.

If you're not registered, you can sign up for biometric approval in the mobile app via Settings in My Profile.

To keep you and your money safe, one-off payments are limited to one a day, two a week, up to four payments every 28 days. You can find out more about payment limits here

I want to move more than £20,000 in a single payment

If you want to move more than £20,000 using Online banking, you will need to make separate payments on different days as you are limited to £20,000 per day. You can find out more about payment limits here

I want to move more than £100,000

I don't mind splitting the amount into smaller payments

You can move your money in separate payments on different days using Online or Mobile Banking. You can find out more about payment limits here

I want to move more than £100,000 in a single payment

If you want to move more than £100,000 in a single payment and move your entire balance to another bank, you'll need to call our Telephone Banking service on 03457 888 444 (Overseas: 0345 030 3605, Relay UK: 18001 03457 888 444).

FAQs

Do I have to move my money as soon as my Fixed Term Savings Account matures?

No. If you have decided to opt out of reinvesting, when your account matures we'll convert it into a Primary Savings Account which will stay open for as long as you want it and you can access your money at any time.

Can I move my money before my Fixed Term Savings Account matures?

No. You can only make changes to your Fixed Term Savings Account after the maturity date.

Can I move my money by visiting a branch instead?

Yes. You'll need your account number and sort code, as well as a passport or driving licence (with photo ID). We'll ask you some security questions, then there are a few ways to choose from to take the money out of your savings account.

1. CHAPS payment - you'll have to complete a form and pay an in-branch fee.

2. Bankers Draft - this is similar to a cheque that can be printed in branch, you can take this with you to pay into an account with another savings provider.

3. Account closure request - once we've closed your account we'll send a cheque in the post to the home address we've got on file for you. It can take 5-7 days.
