Change your arranged overdraft limit

Changing your overdraft limit won’t take long

If you’ve got an arranged overdraft limit on your account that you feel is too low or too high, we’ll show you how to change it.

Things to keep in mind

If you reduce your overdraft too much, you might go into an unarranged overdraft. Here’s an example of unarranged overdraft costs.

Tools to help you

Check your chances of being accepted before applying

Give our eligibility tool a try to find out if you're likely to be accepted for an overdraft. It can give you an idea of your potential overdraft limit and representative APR. It takes just a few minutes and won't harm your credit rating.

Find out how much interest you're likely to pay

Why not use our overdraft cost calculator to see what an overdraft would cost you based on your circumstances? The great news is, it won't harm your credit rating.

How to change your overdraft

Review your personal details

As you’re changing a form of debt, we have to go through a formal request process. We'll ask to review your personal details first.

Increase, reduce or remove your limit

Tell us what you want your new overdraft limit to be. If you're increasing your limit, your request will be subject to credit assessment.

Increasing your overdraft?

You can apply to increase your limit if:

  • You are aged 18+ and living in the UK
  • You have an eligible NatWest bank account which you pay your salary or a regular amount into
  • You, or any parties on your account, have not been declared bankrupt in the last 6 years

Please note: if you apply on a joint account, we will only assess the eligibility of the person applying.

Also, let's check if you're eligible

Use our free eligibility checker before you apply to see if you’re likely to be accepted. It only takes a few minutes and there’s no impact on your credit score.

If you have a joint account, we recommend that you both check your eligibility, as you could each be eligible for different levels of borrowing.

If you've already checked, you're good to move on below.
