What is Additional Permitted Subscription?
A bereaved spouse or civil partner can apply to receive an additional ISA allowance up to the value of the deceased's ISA savings. This is called Additional Permitted Subscription sometimes referred to as ISA inheritance allowance.
Please note: this is not inheriting the actual money in the ISA, it is inheriting an allowance equal to the balance (including all interest). You can use this inherited allowance to pay money into your own personal ISA without impacting your annual allowance.
Steps to apply for Additional Permitted Subscription
- To apply for an Additional Permitted Subscription allowance, please complete the request using the Additional Permitted Subscription E-form below.
- You'll be asked to provide details of all ISAs held by the deceased.
- Once we have received your request and verified the information, we will send you an E-mail containing your Additional Permitted Subscription. This will confirm your total Additional Permitted Subscription allowance, which will be based on the higher of the eligible amounts.
- Within the entitlement email, you will also receive a link to a Deposit E-form. This form allows you to request the transfer of funds into your cash ISA. Please ensure that you do not transfer funds independently outside of this process, as doing so will use your standard annual ISA allowance rather than your Additional Permitted Subscription allowance.
- After you have completed the deposit request, we will process this for you and provide confirmation once everything has been completed.
- Please note, a surviving spouse or civil partner has up to 3 years from the date of death, or 180 days from the completion of estate administration (whichever is later), to apply for the Additional Permitted Subscription.
