Do I need a home energy efficiency grant?
Making your home more energy efficient can help keep it warmer. It could also help you save money over time.
The cost to get started can feel like a big problem. But help is available.
You might be able to get help from the government to pay for some of the work. One example is the Energy Company Obligation (ECO). But that’s not the only option. There are other schemes in the UK that could help you start saving energy and money.
These schemes can change. Check back here or visit the websites listed to make sure you have the latest information.
Energy Company Obligation Scheme (ECO)
Value: Variable up to £20,000
Location: England, Wales and Scotland
This scheme provides grants to help pay for energy-saving improvements in homes. It is for people on lower incomes or those who may need extra support.
It looks at the whole home, not just one problem, to help make it warmer and more energy efficient.
Warm Home Discount (WHD)
Value: The discount is fixed at £150.
Location: England, Wales and Scotland
The Warm Home Discount Scheme is a one-off discount given to your electricity bill between October and March.
It’s automatically paid to your energy supplier.
Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS)
Value: Variable up to £7,500
Location: England and Wales only
This grant helps pay for a new way to heat your home. It can cover some of the cost of replacing older heating, like gas, oil or electric systems.
You could replace these with cleaner, more energy‑efficient options, such as heat pumps or biomass boilers. These can help lower energy use and are better for the environment.
