It can typically take around two weeks from the time you submit your mortgage application to the time you obtain an offer. However, this may take longer depending on the complexity of your application and if we need any additional information.

What documents do I need to apply for a mortgage?

Before you apply for a mortgage, it will be useful to have several documents to hand as well as having a good understanding of your finances to help prepare you for getting a mortgage.

Self-employed or a freelancer?

If you’re self-employed, you’ll need to provide the following additional documents required for proof of income:

Proof of income (2 years)

  • Certified accounts
  • SA302 form and tax year overview from HMRC
  • Business bank statements

You can apply to extend your mortgage offer by one month to give you extra time to complete buying your new property. This option is also available if you need more time to remortgage your existing property.

By requesting an extension to your mortgage offer you are acting on behalf of all parties named on the mortgage.

You usually won't need to resubmit paperwork, such as evidence of income. The exception is if your circumstances have changed.
