What details do I need to pay my mortgage?

As part of the terms and conditions of your mortgage, you must hold an active Direct Debit to pay your mortgage monthly.

If you don't have a Direct Debit set up to make your monthly mortgage payment, you can set one up online. Just use our self service platform 'Manage my Mortgage'. You can find it in the NatWest app or Online Banking. If you haven't used them yet, here's some guidance(opens in a new window) on how to access them. It doesn't matter whether you have other NatWest accounts or just a mortgage.

If an app isn't for you, you can also use Manage Your Mortgage (opens in a new window) where you can just see your mortgage account.

Once you're in Manage my Mortgage, select 'My payments and services' from the main menu, ‘My payments’ and then ‘Make a payment’. Just choose 'Set up a new direct debit'.

The details we require for a Direct Debit are:

  • Full names (whether account is in sole/joint)
  • Bank account number
  • Sort code
  • Which bank/building society the account is held with

If you can't set up a Direct Debit or a Direct Debit has been returned by your bank as unpaid, the quickest way to make a payment is to use 'Manage my Mortgage' again.

Making a payment this way is easy to do and it's usually applied to your mortgage account in just a few hours. You'll also receive email confirmation that the payment was successful for peace of mind.

Just select 'My payments and services' from the main menu, followed by 'My payments'. The option 'Make a payment (Overpayment, missed mortgage payment or manual mortgage payment)' followed by 'Make a missed mortgage payment or manual mortgage payment' is the one you need.
