Step 1

Learn how to get your team ready before your smartcard arrives and get a feel for Bankline for Communities.

Before your smartcard and reader arrive

Your smartcard, card reader and smartcard PIN will arrive around 7 days after the ‘Step 1’ email we sent. While you’re waiting, there’s plenty to do to get your organisation ready.

This is the ideal time to learn about Bankline, talk to your team and gather the info you need.

An overview

Let’s start by reviewing some key features of Bankline for Communities:

Dual authorisation

Every payment will need to be raised by one person, and approved by both approvers. It's a way of making sure your money is safe. We also apply dual approval to any admin changes you need to make.

Your profile

We’ve set up your profile for you, and it’s all ready to go. There’s nothing for you to set up or change.

You can make immediate and future-dated payments to UK accounts free of charge, up to £50k. To send higher amounts or make international payments, you’d need to visit a branch.

You can add as many users as you need to Bankline, and you can give them one of three pre-defined roles – more on this later.

Your role as account leader

As an account leader, you have an important role to play in how your organisation uses Bankline. You’re responsible for:

  • Adding accounts.
  • Adding new users and giving them a role.
  • Supporting users with day-to-day things like system access.
  • Helping your team get the best from Bankline for Communities.

Setting up your team

Important activity

As both account leaders will get access to Bankline for Communities at the same time, it’s worth speaking to your fellow account leader to discuss which people from your organisation you’re going to add to Bankline, as you’ll need to do this once your smartcard and reader arrive.

Choosing which roles suit your team

This will help with your conversations about what jobs your team members will be doing in Bankline. We’ll explain more in Step 2, when you come to assigning roles.

You can give each user one of three roles:

Account leader

Account leaders can add and manage users and open and close accounts (you’ll need at least two to approve any changes).

They can also create and approve payments and view accounts and transactions.

Tips

Don’t worry if you’re not sure on something – you can ask our experts in the webinar.

When deciding who needs access, factor in cover for illness and holidays.

No need to go it alone. You can create more account leaders to share the responsibility – especially useful for holiday cover.

Set your organisation up well and you’ll be saving time and running your finances securely. Plus, you’ll be a pro in no time, with transferable expertise in digital finances!
