Getting to know Thames Marine Services

Brothers Nicholas and Robert Dwan founded the company in 2015, building on a family tradition of watermen on the river Thames.

Today, they’re the main supplier of fuel, oil, and lubricants to customers along the Thames, from the suburb of Teddington right through London and out to the Estuary, and from Sheerness to Shrood on the Medway.

As the company has grown, its financial needs have become more complex, and James and his team need a clear view across the whole business to manage its finances.

“We started using Bankline Mobile because we have many different entities in the group with different bank accounts. Having visibility of all the accounts in one place and approvals all in one place makes our lives a lot easier,” says James.

What does James like best about Bankline Mobile?

Being tied to the desk isn’t always practical, and Bankline Mobile gives James the flexibility to keep things moving wherever he is.

“My favourite feature is that my team can queue payments on Bankline. They can then assign me as an approver. I get a notification directly from the Bankline app and I can approve to make sure our suppliers are paid on time.”

He can also keep track of activity across all accounts whether he’s in the office or out and about. 

“I feel secure using Bankline Mobile”

Security was another big topic in our conversation, and James spoke to us about the importance of trust and control. On Bankline Mobile, you can use facial recognition to log in, and a security code for those more important activities.

Thames Marine Services have dual authorisation set up, which means a second person is needed to approve transactions.

“It also allows the owners to keep oversight on the larger transactions leaving the business.” So the Dwan brothers can be reassured that all is operating as it should.   

Looking to the future

“I think that digital banking will play a key role in the success of Thames Marine Services over the next couple of years.”
