S&CC using patient, purposeful finance to build a fairer future

NatWest Social & Community Capital (S&CC) has launched its latest impact report

S&CC are unlocking potential

Social & Community Capital (S&CC) has become a trusted partner for social enterprises across the UK with a mission that has remained constant: to unlock potential in communities too often overlooked.

In 2024, demand for the specialist support that S&CC provides surged. In a climate of tightening public funding and economic uncertainty, social enterprises are stepping up but they need capital that understands their pace and purpose.

S&CC responded with 19 loans, including 10 to new investees, and committed £1.9m to organisations tackling everything from affordable housing to inclusive community activities.

2024 marked a year of fewer loans but greater impact as S&CC realigned its investment strategy to focus on Scotland, the Midlands, and the North West of England.

Our latest impact report shows that high proportion of loans to existing investees reflects the strength of our ongoing relationships. Highlights include:

  • £1.88m in total loans approved or restructured.
  • 19 organisations supported: 10 new and 9 existing.
  • £830,177 disbursed to existing organisations.
  • £1.05m disbursed to new organisations.
  • £793,177 in loan restructures/extensions for 7 existing investees.
  • £2.89m total loan portfolio.
  • 6.17% weighted average interest rate.
  • £6.19m Tribe Fund value at year-end.

S&CC CEO Victoria Papworth said: “The challenges facing our communities are real, but so is the determination of the social enterprises and charities we support. At S&CC, we’re not just funding ideas, we’re investing in resilience, innovation, and the belief that patient, purposeful finance is essential to building a fairer future.”

S&CC Chair Andrew Harrison said: “As we celebrate 25 years of backing bold ideas and brilliant people, I’m more convinced than ever that finance can be a force for good. Social enterprises are leading the way—and we’re proud to stand beside them, helping turn ambition into action where it matters most.”
