Moonshine Detailing Products

As part of our showcase of inspiring independent retailers, Dan Regan and Josh Roles, founders of this sustainable car detailing product manufacturer, talk about their experiences of trading in 2020.

From wheel cleaner solution to wooden air fresheners, their products are packaged using sustainable materials and all of them are reusable and refillable – making them kinder to both their customer’s pockets, and the planet.

How have you found trading this year, and have you adapted your business in any way?

“After working on developing our products in 2019, we actually incorporated Moonshine in March 2020 – not put off by the global pandemic – and successfully launched our products in July. Some have called us crazy, and Covid has certainly presented us with some challenges. Equally, though, it’s presented plenty of opportunities, which we’ve grabbed with both hands and made the most of. It’s been so incredibly exhilarating to launch the brand and products that we’ve worked so hard to build, and we’ve been absolutely blown away by the demand for them and how much people love them. Our next step is to become net carbon zero.”

We’ve deliberately worked with independent and local businesses wherever we can. We’re actively building our network of UK stockists at the moment and looking to work solely with small, independent automotive-themed businesses

Have you done anything different in the run-up to Christmas this year?

“Well, this is our first Christmas trading, and we’re already seeing a huge demand for the new reusable car air fresheners that we’ve just launched. They of course reflect the sustainability that all Moonshine products embody. With our liquid products, we achieve this by selling them in premium, refillable glass bottles. With the air fresheners, they are wooden, sold in a metal tin and come with a tiny glass bottle of oil to reinfuse the air freshener once it has lost its scent. It’s essentially an air freshener for life. We worked hard to get the patent applied for and the product launched by December, as we know it’s going to be a popular present!”

How important is it to support local and independent businesses?

“Supporting local businesses is always important. But this year, it’s been a genuine life-saver for so many independent businesses to get support from their local communities, other local businesses, and from our essential services like accountants and banks. We’ve deliberately worked with independent and local businesses wherever we can. It’s a good feeling to know that when someone buys from us, they’re not only supporting our business, but in turn we’re supporting others. We’re actively building our network of UK stockists at the moment and looking to work solely with small, independent automotive-themed businesses.”

What advice would you give to entrepreneurs looking to launch?

“Believe in your idea, bounce it off friends and family, and don’t let fear of failure paralyse your decision-making. All the best brands and entrepreneurs have failed at things. So seize the day, don’t look back and live your vision.”
