The entrepreneur redefining support for neurodiverse business leaders

Jana Devlin, founder of ‘Girl Squad’ tells us how joining Hatch’s NatWest-sponsored ‘Launchpad’ programme has helped to support and elevate her business model.

When life throws curveballs, some people dodge them. Others - like Jana Devlin - turn them into stepping stones.

Jana Devlin, the founder of Girl Squad, knows firsthand what it means to face health challenges while trying to keep a career afloat. Her story is one of resilience, creativity, and a mission to make life easier for those navigating similar struggles.

From Burnout to Breakthrough

Originally from South Africa, Jana spent years thriving as a graphic designer. But things changed when early onset menopause, PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder), and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) collided with her professional life.

Jana said: “I realised I couldn’t do normal office work anymore, I was burning out every month.”

Instead of giving up, Jana decided to channel her experience into something bigger - a platform that supports neurodiverse individuals and those with health challenges.

Her passion? Helping people manage everyday life without feeling isolated or overwhelmed.

The power of support

Jana’s vision is simple yet powerful: create an online space where people can connect, share resources, and support each other. But here’s the twist - she’s using a time-banking model.

She said: “Instead of paying for help, you give an hour of your time and earn a karma credit to get help in return.

“I think people are using AI, but they're not actually aware of all the things out there that can help them so much more.”

This approach removes financial barriers and builds a community based on mutual support. Beyond that, Jana plans to share practical tips on flexible working, workplace adjustments, and even using those AI tools to simplify life.

Finding your people

Turning an idea into a business isn’t easy - especially when you’re doing it alone. Jana credits Hatch Enterprise and its partnership with NatWest for changing that.

She said: “Before the programme, I felt isolated and lost. The Launchpad programme gave me the knowledge, the tools, and most importantly, the community. It was like handholding along the journey instead of stumbling in the dark.

“Every session was mind-blowing. I didn’t know these things existed, and now I do.”

Like a reed in a stream

So, what’s next for Jana?

She said: “In an ideal world, I want this to be global - a safe, inclusive space where people can find help without feeling isolated or broken.

“I just want to help all these people who think there’s something wrong with them, when actually they’re just not getting the support they need.

“You have to be like a reed in the water. Sometimes you don’t have to be so rigid - just go with the flow. Go where the water takes you.”
