What is a Premier Select account?

Premier Select is a current account designed to simplify your banking. It lets you manage payments, bills, and income all in one place.

It also helps you avoid foreign transaction fees, with an option to add an overdraft.

There’s no monthly fee for the Premier Select account – you’ll just need to meet the eligibility criteria.

Fees may apply for additional products and services.

Here's what the Select account from NatWest Premier offers:

No foreign transaction fee

No Non-Sterling Transaction Fee when you make a payment outside the UK or in a foreign currency. Not valid for ATM withdrawals. Other local fees may apply.

Overdraft option

If you open a Premier Select account, you can choose to apply for an overdraft. As a Premier customer, you won’t pay any interest on the first £500 of an arranged overdraft (subject to status). Representative APR 20.1% (Variable). Which is handy if you happen to go overdrawn accidentally or need to use your overdraft to manage your money in the short-term. How does our overdraft compare? A good way to compare the costs of borrowing products is by using the APR, which shows the cost of borrowing over a year.

Applying for an overdraft

You can apply for an arranged overdraft once your account is open using our app or Online Banking.

Check if you’ll be accepted before applying—it’s free, quick, and doesn’t affect your credit score.

We start with a soft credit search that appears on your file but lenders can’t see it.

If you apply, we’ll perform a full credit search, which may affect your score.

Just let us know when you apply. We’ll switch your Current Account to us within seven days. We’ll move all your Direct Debits and standing orders from your old account to us so you don’t have to.

We can’t switch savings accounts or ISAs.

Before you apply for a bank account with us, we need to check you're happy with a few things. And ask you a few questions up front. Then we can make your application as quick and simple as it can be.

Are you eligible for this account?

You can apply for a Premier Select account if you are a UK resident, aged 18+. 

And you’ll need one or more of the following:

at least £100k sole income or £120k joint income paid into your NatWest account,

or a minimum of £100k savings or investments held with us,

or a £500k+ mortgage with us.

You're all set

Your application will be completely online, and you won't need to post us any information or visit a branch.

  1. Tell us a bit about yourself and we’ll set up your account.
  2. Our partner Mitek will then check your identity by matching you to your Photo ID. Your Photo ID must be a Passport, UK or EU/EEA Driving Licence or an EU/EEA National ID card. We might also ask for a valid proof of address. If you don't have your ID to hand you can finish this step later.
  3. Once they’ve confirmed your identity we’ll activate your account.

Please note, a partial switch does not qualify for any switch incentives we may offer.

In summary:

  1. You create a joint account by adding the second applicant to an existing account.
  2. You can either add the second applicant to an existing account, or if you’d like a completely new account, one of you can open a new account and then add the second applicant once it’s open.

Here's a few steps to get started

If you're already using a device with the NatWest app, select the 'Start application' button below.

You will need the most up to date version of the app, to make changes to your account. 

To open a new account: 

  1. Once logged in to the app, choose 'Apply' and then current accounts. 
  2. Then choose what type of account you would like to open.

To change your account type or switch into your existing account: 

  1. Once logged in, click into the account you wish to change or switch.
  2. Choose either the 'Change my account type' or 'Switch my account' option.

Log in to Online Banking

  1. Enter your customer number or 16-digit card number to get started. 
  2. You'll then need to enter your Online Banking pin and password.
  3. Once you're logged in follow the below

To open a new account:

  1. Select 'Current accounts' from 'Our Products'. 
  2. Choose the account you want to apply for and complete your application.

To change to a different account type or to switch into your existing account: 

  1. Choose the account you wish to change or switch, click 'Account details'. Then choose either the 'Switch to us form' or review the section 'Want to change to a different type of current account?' to begin your application.

Sign up for Online Banking

You’ll need to sign up for Online Banking with us to apply for a current account. The good news is that it normally takes only 5 minutes and all you’ll need is your sort code, account number and your NatWest Debit Card, if you have one.

Select ‘How to register for Online Banking' to start.  

Once you’ve registered, select ‘I am now signed up’ to log in and apply for a Premier Select account.

Log in to NatWest Online Banking

  1. Enter your customer number or 16-digit card number to get started.

How to download and apply via the app

First, download the app:

  1. On your mobile or tablet, open the camera and point your device at the QR code.
  2. Follow the link that pops up to download the app.
  3. Use your details to log in and follow the below.

To open a new account:

  1. Once logged in to the app, choose 'Apply' and then 'Current accounts'. 
  2. Then choose what type of account you would like to open.

To change to a different account type or to switch into your existing account:

  1. Click into the account you wish to change or switch, then select 'Change my account type' or 'Switch my account' to begin your application.
