IJ Global recognises NatWest as Europe’s “ESG Financial Adviser of the Year 2022”

The IJ Global judging panel assessed multiple areas of ESG leadership including the following:

  • NatWest has pioneered innovative structures and transactions with their clients in the infrastructure space and beyond
  • NatWest has ranked #1 in UK GSS1 Corporate debt, #1 in UK GSS FI Debt, #3 in W Europe GSS Corporate debt, #1 in European GSS FI Debt and also #4 in W Europe GSS Corporate Hybrids by deal value (Dealogic as at 31 March 2022).
  • In July 2021, NatWest committed to provide £100 billion of Climate and Sustainable Funding to its clients by the end of 2025.
  • NatWest has helped drive the evolution of ESG finance not only in the more “traditional” ESG areas of energy and transport, but also with many inaugural frameworks for sectors which had not used ESG financing before. These sectors include: housing associations, education, real estate, agriculture, funds, and industrials.
  • NatWest has also been behind landmark transactions for fund and other owners of infrastructure assets, as well as in the Financial Institution and Supranational space.
  • Furthermore, NatWest has embedded ESG into broader financing and risk products, including FX, rates and inflation derivatives, commercial paper, deposits, repurchase agreements (repo) and green mortgages. Through this wide range of ESG products, NatWest supports the individual ESG objectives of its customers and incentivises companies to embark on their sustainability journey.
  • Finally, NatWest conducts ESG research and publishes novel ESG thought pieces at a pace which is in line with consulting and academic institutions. Over the period of the IJ Global award, NatWest has published more than 200 thought leadership pieces across multiple formats (research pieces, newsletters, webinars, podcasts) on cutting edge ESG topics.

Gustavo Brianza, Head of Debt and ESG Advisory at NatWest, commented: “We’re thrilled to have won this highly prestigious award and thank IJ Global for advancing ESG through their awards ethos. At NatWest, we know we have a significant role to play supporting our clients in driving their transition. We provide this support across multiple dimensions including innovation in sustainable financing, advisory, thought leadership and tools to understand and address their carbon footprint.
