Sibos 2023 – helping us deliver meaningful change for our clients

Stuart Foster leads the team heading to Sibos in Toronto in September.

Sibos is the financial services event of the year, bringing together thousands of decision makers and experts from across the globe.

Stuart Foster discusses why a presence at Sibos is so important for NatWest and what the bank is looking to achieve from being a key player at the event.

Stuart is NatWest’s Managing Director, Financial Institutions. As his role is to drive the customer strategy and deliver opportunities from the whole bank to our institutional customers, Sibos is a cornerstone event in his diary.

We sat down with Stuart to see what’s shaping his thoughts ahead of flying out to Toronto.

Why is being at Sibos so important for NatWest?

“Sibos is so important to NatWest, it’s one of the largest forums where Banks, technology companies, platforms and fintechs, all gather to discuss innovation and key macro trends.

“NatWest is a huge player in the financial services and payments industry so it’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with strategic partners from around the globe. Sibos gives us a chance to understand what matters most to those partners and how we can deliver meaningful change for our client base as a whole.”

What are you most looking forward to at Sibos 2023?

“It will be fantastic to gather with our clients and partners to discuss how we can help them and partner with them to keep providing innovations and solutions to global Transaction Services.

“Key industry topics like innovation, macroeconomics and geopolitics will be discussed at length and how we, as a group of financial institutions, will solve some of these issues and drive real change.”

What are the top three priorities in the payments and transactions space for 2023-2024?

“Firstly, we’ve got to get the basics right. Collectively the industry has to deliver the ISO 20022 transition. As the UK’s largest processor of payments, we need to be an exemplar in that delivery.

“Secondly, we need to deliver innovation and future-proof payment propositions. We need to think through how we do that, and we should continually challenge ourselves to be at the cutting edge of the industry’s evolution in the coming years.

“And finally – but most crucially – interacting with our clients, understanding what is important to them, and discussing how we can help them deliver on their objectives.”
