NatWest has been named “Derivatives Risk Solutions House of the Year: Europe & Asia” at the GlobalCapital Derivatives Awards 2026, recognising the strength of our derivatives franchise and our focus on helping clients navigate increasingly complex market environments.

The award reflects an approach that brings together expertise across foreign exchange, interest rates, structuring, trading and client coverage to help clients assess and manage financial risks.

Our offering spans both vanilla and structured solutions, helping clients manage everything from day-to-day currency and interest-rate exposures to more complex financing, investment and operational risks.

The recognition builds on recent success for our FX business, including being named “UK’s Best FX Bank for Corporates” and “The World’s Best FX Bank for G10 Currencies” in Euromoney’s 2026 FX Awards.

Helping clients navigate changing markets

For corporate businesses and financial institutions, effective risk management has become increasingly important amid shifting interest-rate expectations, currency volatility and evolving financing requirements.

Our role goes beyond providing derivative products. We work closely with clients to understand the underlying exposure, identify the desired outcome and develop an appropriate strategy. Solutions can range from straightforward FX or interest-rate hedging through to more sophisticated approaches involving multiple currencies, optionality, inflation-linked exposures or balance-guaranteed structures.

The award recognises our ability to coordinate expertise across rates and FX to help clients address interconnected financing, currency and interest-rate risks.

Andy Hunt, Head of Corporate & FI Solutions at NatWest, said:
“This award is fantastic recognition for our teams and, most importantly, for the way we work with our clients. Markets are rarely simple, and our clients increasingly need a partner that can look across interest rates, currencies and financing to understand the complete picture. By bringing together our market expertise, ideas and execution capabilities, we can help clients understand and address their risk-management considerations while supporting their broader business objectives.”

Interest-rate solutions built around client objectives

Our interest-rate business supports corporate and institutional clients across a range of market environments through a solutions-led approach grounded in deep market expertise.

Capabilities include interest-rate swaps and options, cross-currency swaps, inflation solutions and specialised hedging for public bond issuance, structured finance and loan portfolios.

The focus is not on the derivative itself, but on the outcome it delivers. This may involve helping clients manage funding-related risks, align hedges with underlying cash flows, manage refinancing risk or support long-term infrastructure and renewable-energy investments.

The same philosophy underpins our structured finance and securitisation capabilities, where we support clients managing a wide range of risks across loan portfolios and structured-finance vehicles.

Managing currency risk in an interconnected world

Foreign-exchange exposures can arise across every aspect of a business, from revenues and costs to acquisitions, investments, financing and cross-border capital expenditure.

NatWest provides FX capabilities spanning spot, forwards, options and cross-currency swaps, supported by digital FX solutions and FX prime brokerage services.

For more complex exposures, our structuring teams work with clients to develop tailored strategies designed around their underlying economic risks. This can be relevant for organisations managing multiple currencies, evolving cash-flow profiles or significant exposures that need to be hedged over time.

A joined-up approach to risk management

Many client challenges do not sit neatly within a single asset class.

Financing decisions often create both interest-rate and currency exposure. International investment programmes can generate FX requirements across multiple currencies and maturities, while refinancing activity may require existing hedges to be restructured alongside new funding arrangements.

NatWest’s integrated Commercial & Institutional model brings together the right expertise for each client situation. Our specialist sales, trading and strategy teams operate across a global footprint, supported by trading and sales hubs in London, Singapore and Stamford, alongside additional sales offices across Europe and Asia.

This enables us to bring together expertise from across Rates and FX when supporting clients' risk-management requirements.

Andy Kaufmann, Head of FX & Rates Structuring at NatWest, said:
“The best risk solutions start with the client’s objective, not with a product. Our job in Structuring is to understand the economic risks a client is trying to manage and then bring together the right combination of instruments, market insight and execution. Increasingly that means working across FX and Rates, combining established products with bespoke solutions where a client’s circumstances require something different. Winning this award is great recognition of that solutions-led approach.”

Innovation supported by technology

Technology continues to play a growing role in how clients access and manage markets.

Across Rates, NatWest has invested in automation and electronic execution capabilities designed to support execution processes. The bank has also developed MicroRates, a platform focused on the hedging and financing of portfolios of individual loan assets, supporting automated risk-management strategies, loan-level hedge pricing and pipeline hedging.

Within FX, we continue to expand access to treasury capabilities through digital solutions. Our AutoFX platform has enabled billions of pounds of automated FX transactions, helping smaller businesses access functionality traditionally associated with larger corporates. While our algorithmic FX execution tools are designed to provide clients with additional execution data and reporting capabilities.

Looking ahead

The financial risks facing businesses continue to evolve. Whether clients are responding to movements in rates and currencies, financing growth, managing international cash flows or adapting their risk frameworks, our focus remains on understanding their objectives and delivering the right expertise and solutions to support them.

Being named “Derivatives Risk Solutions House of the Year: Europe & Asia” recognises the strength of that approach and the teams behind it. Most importantly, it reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting our clients as they manage evolving financial risks and changing market conditions.
