Faster Payments will continue to operate 24/7 365 days a year. If there are insufficient funds for any payments the payment will be rejected as would usually happen on a Bank Holiday. 

Future Dated Faster Payments made via Online Banking/Mobile Banking/Telephone Banking/Branch which are scheduled for 19 September will be re-dated to 20 September for processing.

Any Future Dated Faster Payment made via Bankline, Bankline Direct or Access Direct will require rekeying by Friday 16 September with a different date, otherwise they will be rejected.  We’ll contact you if we identify that your payment needs to be rekeyed

Direct Debits are dependent on the Direct Debit Originator, collections should not be made earlier than 19 September. Please contact your Direct Debit Originator to confirm their intended collection date.

As with a normal Bank Holiday Standing Order payments will not be debited.  These will debit on 20 September.

As with a normal Bank Holiday 19 September will be a non-clearing day for cheques. This means your cheque credit or debit clearing will be delayed by 1 day.

No as 19 September will be a non-processing day for CHAPS payments.

Any Future Dated CHAPS payments made via Bankline, Bankline Direct or Access Direct will require rekeying by Friday 16 September with a different date, otherwise they will be rejected.  We’ll contact you if we identify that your payment needs to be rekeyed.

Branches will be closed on 19 September so customers will be unable to deposit cash in a branch.

Post Offices: Branches are currently open but most of their counters are situated in independent businesses, so it may be worth checking locally. Some branches may choose to close on 19 September.

As with any Bank Holiday, cash paid in at Post Office counters over the weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) will have an additional one day delay, and will credit customers accounts on the Tuesday.

Any Future Dated International payments made via Bankline, Bankline Direct or Access Direct dated 19 September that are in GBP or to a beneficiary at a UK Bank will require cancelling and rekeying. This will need completing  by their respective payment cut-off time on Thursday 15 September using valid GBP value date, otherwise they will be rejected. Payment cut-off times can be viewed here.

We’ll contact you if we identify that your payment needs to be rekeyed. Any future dated international payments in currencies other than GBP to beneficiaries at Banks outside the UK will process as normal.

Any Inward International Payments crediting a GBP account will process on 20 September.

Any non-GBP payment received via SWIFT on 19th September will process as normal.

If you are planning to submit any files this week, you must follow the revised timetable published by pay.uk to ensure payments arrive on the intended date. 

If you have already submitted payments with a processing date of 16 September, originally due to be applied to accounts on 19 September, you don’t need to take any action. With no further intervention from your sponsoring payment service provider, your payments will now be applied on 20 September 2022. 

If you have already submitted payments with a processing date of 19 September, you don’t need to take any action. The payments will be applied to accounts as intended on 20 September 2022. 

Given the short notice of the Bank Holiday, be aware that some BACS software solutions may still show Monday 19 September as a processing date. 

Please note Direct Debits cannot be collected ahead of the date specified to the payer in the advance notice, in accordance with the system rules.  

Any base rate loans due to drawdown on Monday 19 September, will now drawdown on Tuesday 20 September.

Any fixed rate periods ending on Monday 19 September, this period will now end on Tuesday 20 September with interest accrual occurring in line as normal.

There will be no impact to your ability to make payments using debit or credit cards however any direct debits associated with your credit cards due on 19 September will be taken on 20 September.

There is no impact to Inbound or Outbound SEPA DD processing.

We are still investigating what this means for Current Accounts scheduled to switch on 19 September.
