This IBAN Checker can check the format of an IBAN (International Bank Account Number) that originates from a member or joining country of the EU or the EEA, plus Switzerland and other countries that have adopted the use of IBAN. A full list of countries is located further down the page. Please note the IBAN Checker:

  • cannot be used to guarantee that an account exists, or that the IBAN belongs to your beneficiary
  • can only be used to check the format of an IBAN - it cannot be used to create an IBAN

The use of beneficiary IBANs for payments in Euro between EU/EEA members was mandatory from the 1st January 2007.

After the 1st January 2007, Euro payments between EU/EEA members without valid IBANs may be subject to delay, rejection and/or charging.
