Purchase protection
Extra cover for most items you buy with your debit or credit card.
When you use your Advantage Private debit or credit card, most of your purchases will be automatically insured. Purchase protection covers you against loss, damage or theft for 100 days from the date of purchase. A £50 excess applies to each claim.
Many purchases will be protected against accidental damage, loss or theft for up to 100 days from the date of purchase with purchases made with your NatWest credit card and up to 45 days after your have purchased them with your debit card.
This is for purchases up to £3,500 per claim and up to £15,000 in any one year per NatWest credit card.
With the debit card you will be covered up to £1,000 per claim and up to £10,000 in any one year.

Do I need to register for purchase protection?
No. It’s an automatic privilege of being an Advantage Private customer.
What isn’t covered?
Unfortunately, Advantage Private purchase protection doesn’t cover everything and there are some key exclusions. For further information, please see the benefit details.

Your Advantage Private purchase protection insurance does not cover you for the following:
- Loss or damage insured under any other policy or which would have been insured but for the application of a policy excess
- a £50 excess will apply
- Trade or business purchases
- Loss of, theft of, or damage to jewellery, precious stones, watches, gold or silver articles from baggage, unless carried by hand or under personal supervision of the Insured, or the Insured’s travelling companions
- Travellers’ cheques, tickets of any kind, cash or equivalent, animals, living plants, other perishable goods, motor vehicles, boats or caravans or other motor vehicle trailer or accessories in or attached to them
- Wear and tear, moth, vermin, atmospheric or climatic conditions or any gradually operating cause, or from any cleaning, dyeing, restoring, adjusting or repairing
- Loss or damage that is notified to the Company more than 45 days after the occurrence
