Cheque guarantee scheme

The Industry Cheque Guarantee Card Scheme closed on 30 June 2011

Following an industry wide decision, the Cheque Guarantee Card Scheme closed on 30 June 2011. You can still write cheques, but you are no longer able to use your Visa Debit card to guarantee payment, although your card is still accepted at retailers and cash machines as normal.

This is something that’s happened across all banks, not just NatWest.

Alternative ways to pay

Debit card, standing order or Direct Debit are just some of the payment methods you can use instead of paying by cheque.

Paying by cheque

You can continue to use cheques to pay for goods and service even though the Cheque Guarantee Card Scheme has ended.
