Want to apply for purchase protection?

Good news. As an Advantage Gold customer, you’re automatically covered for this benefit.

Insurance protection for your new items

Purchase protection gives you:

  • Loss, accidental damage and theft cover – on nearly every purchase made with an Advantage Gold credit or debit card
  • Up to £15,000 worth of cover each year – with a maximum value of £3,500 for a single claim
  • Up to £10,000 worth of cover each year for debit card purchases – with a maximum value of £1,000 for each item
  • 100 days protection – after you have made a purchase with your Advantage Gold credit card, or 45 days’ protection if you use your Advantage Gold debit card

Main exclusions

  • Items more specifically insured – for example under a household insurance policy
  • The first £50 – of any claim
  • Items not exclusively paid for with your Advantage Gold debit or credit card – for example if you make part payment by card and part by cash
  • Jewellery or watches in baggage – unless the baggage is carried by hand and under supervision of the card holder

How to enjoy this cover

This cover is provided automatically as part of your Advantage Gold current account. You don’t need to do anything to enjoy the benefit.

However, we recommend that you keep copies of receipts and photographs of the items. This helps if you need to make a claim.

To make a claim, call the NatWest Advantage Gold Purchase Protection Unit on 0845 074 0074. Calls may be recorded.

If an item is lost, damaged or stolen we’ll ask you to complete a claim form and return it within 60 days of the incident.

If the loss is due to theft or malicious damage, you must report this to the police within 24 hours of discovery, and get a written report from them.

Q. If an item is damaged, will I get a new one?

A. If it’s possible to repair an item, that’s what we’ll normally arrange. Before replacing damaged goods, we normally need confirmation from a suitably qualified expert that the item you are claiming for is beyond repair.

Q. Does the cover only apply to loss or damage in the UK?

A. No, the cover is worldwide. However, you must meet the policy conditions – such as reporting the matter to the police – before making a claim.

Q. If I buy an electrical item and it doesn’t work after a while, will this be covered?

A. No. However, most electrical items will be covered by a manufacturer’s warranty.
