HM Customs & Revenue loss of child benefit data

21 November 2007

Since being alerted to the loss of data, we have been working with the HMRC to minimise the risk to any child benefit recipients who have bank accounts with RBS, NatWest or Ulster Bank. Currently, there is no evidence that this data is in the hands of fraudsters.

We are doing everything we can to safeguard our customers, but it is important that they help us by checking their account regularly and letting the bank know if they see any unusual transactions.

The HMRC have set up a helpline as a primary contact for child benefit recipients who have concerns - the number is 0845 302 1444.
