Economic Conditions Improve For Small Businesses

Britain's small firms have reported a better than expected results this quarter and confidence about prospects for next quarter has also risen, according to the latest NatWest Quarterly Survey of Small Businesses in Britain. The survey shows that sales turnover (+15%), average employment (+2%), investment (+7%) and selling prices (+25%) are all up on last quarter's figures.

British women are in control of their cash, according to a new survey by NatWest Internet Banking which found that over a third of women know the balance on their current account to the nearest 1. Men however have a much more laissez faire attitude about their finances, with 35% only knowing their balance to the nearest 50 and 10% not knowing it at all.


The 20,000 Degree - School Leavers Concern Over University Debt

With A-Level results days away, sixth formers are facing up to the harsh reality that University could leave them with debts of over 10,000, according to the 2003 NatWest Student Money Matters survey. Average anticipated debt is steadily rising year on year, up 1,300 from 2002, whilst this year's freshers believe they will have to find 854.88 a month to cover essentials such as rent, food, and books to beer and cigarettes. That works out at a staggering 20,517 required to cover living expenses over a three-year degree.
