Foreign drafts

Use this method where a paper-based international payment method is required. However, it's neither the fastest nor the most secure way of sending money overseas.

You can enclose your payment with documents or deliver it in person. You can:

  • use this paper-based payment mechanism if it's more acceptable to your payee than a cheque
  • send payment to almost anywhere in the world (subject to the reliability of the destination country's postal system)
  • have the draft drawn on a bank in, and in the currency of, the payee's country, so it's easier for them to clear
  • obtain drafts in a variety of currencies and for any amount
  • We need to know the recipient's name, but not their bank account details

Please order the draft from your branch a few days in advance or order electronically via BankLine.

Please read this important legal information

Costs:

  • £8 for a draft up to £100
  • £18 for a draft for more than £101
