How often must the return be submitted?

Returns are normally made quarterly, but for smaller businesses (with a turnover of less than £600,000) they can be made annually. You can also make returns monthly, by agreement with Customs and Excise, though this is only worthwhile if you have a high turnover of zero rated goods and want to get refunds as quickly as possible.
